Photography

Macro/Landscape/Skyscape

I started taking photos to have subjects to draw and paint. Most photos are taken when I go walking, getting my steps in for the day. It wasn't until after people started telling me how good they thought my photos were that I thought about doing something with them. Now, I'm going to make some of them available as prints to see if anyone is interesting in actually purchasing them to hang in their homes.

Drawings

Soft pastels, oil pastels, colored pencils, and charcoal and pencil sketches

My mom is an artist, and from an early age, taught my brother and I a lot about drawing and painting. In high school, I took art the one year it was offered, and when I first started college I was minoring in art. I've always enjoyed creating art, but never felt I was very good at it until recently. Now, I think I'm okay with it. My most recent straight up drawings have been based on wildlife photography from some of the photographers I follow on Facebook, and they were given as Christmas gifts to family members.

Watercolors

Paintings

Watercolors have always been a challenge for me as they tend to dry quickly or they bleed into one another when I don't want them to. I've been working on that in recent years and have produced some images that I don't think are horrible. Paintings of pollinators and plants are based on photos I've taken, while paintings of larger animals were based on photos from other wildlife photographers and painted as gifts for friends and family.

ABOUT

Meet the person behind Studio C² Arts

I'm Chris, an artist and photographer obsessed with nature, the contrast of light and shadows, textures, and details in nature that most people will never see. I've created art off and on in many forms over the years, from drawings and paintings to photography, from assembling and painting models to doing my own small sculptures and ornaments. Most of my work attempts to be photo realistic, even if it doesn't quite get there.

I've doodled with abstracts, but my only attempts at creating actual abstract art were done as assignments for college classes. This is an area that I really need to do more experimentation with, and part of the reason why I don't delete all photos that are out of focus.

I'm also a seamstress and yarn enthusiast. While I've not created any patterns of my own, I have tried to incorporate my artistic style into pieces I've made via color and texture choices

One thing I do not do is digital art, and I avoid AI like the plague. I've attempted digital a few times and simply couldn't achieve what I wanted. Granted, it was likely due to lack of knowledge on how to use the tools, but I do have to say that I prefer doing art manually. I admire digital artists, it's just not one of my skills.

Even my photography is minimally edited. On most pieces, the only changes made are to resize and crop to make an image fit a certain print size. If a photo print is listed with a higher price, it'll be because I did a bit more editing on the photo, usually tweaking brightness and contrast to make colors pop just a bit more.
